Protecting yourself from Wi-Fi hackers and SIM card thieves

Airtel-Vodafone is warning islanders to be careful when accessing online banking and shopping sites via Wi-Fi in public places ahead of the busy Easter travel period.

Hackers have been setting up bogus free Wi-Fi connections in places like airports, bars and busy coffee shops and stealing confidential information inputted during the browsing session. Airtel-Vodafone head of marketing Peter Zunino said: ‘We are aware that this sort of activity has taken place in airports for example. With lots of Islanders traveling over the Easter period, people really need to be careful and ensure that they are not putting in sensitive information such as bank and credit card details over insecure networks.
