In a letter to Whirlpool customers, Vice President, Jeff Noel, stated that the models had been designed by Indesit and were manufactured before Whirlpool acquired the company. He apologised for the inconvenience, reassuring customers that they are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue and replace the items.
He advised that all engineers entering homes to replace or repair appliances are following strict health and safety processes, including equipping all delivery drivers and engineers with personal protective equipment and hand sanitiser.
Those with affected models are asked to contact the customer service team on 0800 316 1442, who remain open seven days a week.
You should unplug the washing machine and stop using it. If you do continue to use your appliance, you should only use cold water cycles of 20 degrees celsius or lower.
Whirlpool branded washing machines are not affected by this issue.
